“Round is a Tortilla”

A little girl discovers that shapes are all around her. They are part of the food she eats, games she plays, and objects in her room and around her town. Everywhere she looks, she sees shapes!

WATCH and LISTEN to Round is a Tortilla: A Book of Shapes by Roseanne Greenfield Thong, Illustrated by John Parra:

ACTION SONG: Circle, Square, Triangle (tune: Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes)

Circle, Square, Triangle, Triangle
Circle, Square, Triangle, Triangle
Heart and Star and Rectangle
Circle, Square, Triangle, Triangle!

ACTION SONG:  Make a Circle (tune: Frere Jacques)

Make a circle, make a circle. (draw circle in the air)
Make it round, make it round,
Make it in a hurry, make it in a hurry.
Now it’s gone, now it’s gone.

PLAY GAMES:

  • Look around the room and identify as many circles as you can see.
  • Do it again, but this time look for other shapes: squares, triangles, and more.
  • Talk about shapes. What shapes are in your snack? A saltine cracker is square! Cheerios are circles!
